An homage to the artistry of the brushstroke.
New York, NY -- Calico Wallpaper is pleased to introduce its newest collection entitled Pigment, which will be available on March 19th. Designed in-house by Calico Wallpaper’s Creative Director, Rachel Cope, the collection celebrates the timeless beauty of natural paint pigments and the artistry of the brushstroke, evoking a quiet, meditative rhythm through layered and expressive color.
Every brushstroke was thoughtfully applied to create passages that feel both spontaneous and meditative. Subtle shifts in tone emerge as the viewer moves through the space, while translucent layers interact with denser pigment to create a balance of light and depth. An homage to the raw beauty of natural pigment, the collection emphasizes paint’s density, transparency, and movement, creating spaces that feel immersive yet quietly grounding.
“Creating this collection brought me back to my early days as an art therapy artist,” says Rachel Cope. “Pigment is that meditative experience. This large-scale repetition was a skill I taught to create a sense of containment or openness - the eye can explore without distraction and the body can respond with calm.”
Each colorway in the Pigment collection tells its own story: Ivory reveals a quiet glow that unfolds in shades of timeless ivory, while Umber evokes elegance etched in rich, earthy tones. Amazonite carries a cool tranquility, flowing like rushing mineral waters, and Stone conveys strength that endures in the silence of its surface. Citrine radiates sunlight that lingers softly, Greenstone pulses with the depth and rhythm of nature, and Chalcedony drifts in soft mineral light, diffusing like morning mist into a serene veil of calm and quiet illumination.
Pigment is printed on PVC-free clay-coated paper and is available for viewing and purchase through Calico Wallpaper’s online shop and select retailers.
