Calico Wallpaper Introduces New Colorways of Aurora Collection

Seven new colors added to Aurora Collection almost a decade after launch

New York, NY (February 2024) Calico Wallpaper launches a new selection of colorways for the long-standing Aurora Collection. Aurora is inspired by the founders, Rachel and Nick Cope's travels around the world, where they are continuously struck by the distinctive colors and qualities of light that are unique to geographical regions.

Each Aurora pattern is a study in the relationship between light, color, place and mood. Inspired by the horizons at dawn and the phenomena of light, Aurora explores the emotions expressed by the ever-changing sky. Like the marbleized murals Calico Wallpaper is well known for, Aurora's patterns are non-repeating, making every installation unique. Cope, who brings a decade of design/build experience to Calico Wallpaper lends his eye for sophisticated detail. Cope's focus is on ensuring that every installation is impeccable, and custom catered to client specifications.

When first ideating on Aurora’s original colorways Rachel, a RISD trained artist, became interested in fabric dying while working on marbleized paper. The collection is developed following extensive research in the arts of fabric dyeing—drawing heavily from Shibori and Ombré techniques. Mineral pigments such as ultramarine and indigo are suspended in liquid and transferred by hand to organic linen. Through careful application, an evolving gradient is formed. This process led to the production of sixteen exquisite patterns ranging from simple to complex and delicate to bold. Using these impeccable original artworks, Cope uses proprietary technology to prepare them for large-scale architectural purposes.

"Nothing compares to early morning light on the horizon," says Rachel, who spent time at the artist residency Villa Lena in Italy when first concepting the original Aurora collection. "We wanted to capture its ephemeral quality and bring it to the home. It's really quite immersive."

Aurora is now available in colorways Anew, Burnish, Dive, Flush, Opal, Orchid, and Pumice.  As with all Calico Wallpaper collections, Aurora was born from original artwork by co-founder Rachel Cope. The Calico Wallpaper team employs advanced technologies to translate its designs into custom-fit murals that are tailored to the client’s project and space. Aurora will be available for purchase through Calico Wallpaper and samples can be ordered at www.calicowallpaper.com.
