Calico Wallpaper Brings Jean Pelle’s Childhood Memories to Life Through the Memoir Collection
A New Bespoke Collection that Whispers of a Remembered Landscape from a Faraway Home
New York, NY (May 17, 2024) — Calico Wallpaper is pleased to present Memoir, a new collection by Jean Pelle, Co-Founder and Creative Director of PELLE, a New York-based lighting and furniture design studio founded in 2011 by Jean and Oliver Pelle. Based on Jean Pelle’s father’s old photographs, Memoir envelopes its viewer in an expanse of scenic landscapes cultivated by her childhood memories.
Memoir was developed from drawings Jean created with oil pastels, a medium she often used growing up in South Korea. The artworks represent various scenes from her childhood. From rich textures of the tall pink and white cosmos flower beds, to swaying green grassy hills and the dense pine forests, these scenic landscapes represent Jean’s upbringing in a small South Korean town, prior to immigrating in 1982 to the United States.
“My father would bring his camera on our long walks through fruit farms, wet rice fields with hilly forests making my brothers and I pose in the tall grasses or thickets of the pine trees,” explains Jean Pelle, Co-Founder and Creative Director, PELLE. “I'm thrilled that together with Calico Wallpaper, we can bring these vivid memories and snapshots of the beautiful South Korean landscape to life. It’s a large-scale representation of the albums my father put together of rich textures and memories of my first home.”
Memoir is available in six vibrant colorways, Canopy, Expanse, Glimmer, Radiant, Rise and Wind. As with all Calico Wallpaper collections, Memoir was born from original artwork. Calico Wallpaper employs advanced technologies to translate the designs to be utilized for their new ordering system, Panorama. This streamlined process maintains the custom nature that the brand is known for allowing for a more efficient ordering process to reduce lead-time to as little as four weeks.
