A Hudson Valley Retreat
Nick and Rachel Cope's residential sanctuary in Ghent, New York

Set within the rolling landscape of New York’s Hudson Valley, the home of Calico Wallpaper founder Rachel Cope and Nick Cope is a modern barn that balances thoughtful design with family-friendly life. Drawn to the area for its sense of community and connection to nature, the couple transformed the space into a creative refuge grounded in craftsmanship and calm.
Working with longtime collaborators General Assembly, the interiors were gently reimagined to enhance warmth and material depth. Plaster-finished walls create a serene backdrop for sculptural furnishings and collected objects, while soft light moves easily through open, airy spaces. Throughout the home, Calico Wallpaper designs appear from painterly installations in shared spaces to atmospheric patterns.
Rooted in simplicity and shaped by its natural setting, the Hudson Valley residence reflects a belief that interiors should evolve alongside the lives lived within them. The result is a space that feels both composed and deeply personal: an environment designed not only to be seen, but to be experienced.
